RME’s THUNDERBOLT Recoilless Hammers are unlike any other power hammer.

THUNDERBOLT Hammers use a momentum balancing principle where the relatively large and slow moving mass of the internal mechanism is perfectly balanced by the fast moving and relatively light piston resulting in almost no recoil. The THUNDERBOLT Recoilless mechanism enabled through careful design and high quality, fine tolerance manufacture is what makes a THUNDERBOLT different.

The largest hammer, the THUNDERBOLT 1500 provides the hitting power of a 20 tonne excavator and hydraulic pavement breaker in a 460kg tool, precisely controlled by a single operator. A strong fit person striking vertically down with a 6kg (14lb) sledge hammer can deliver almost 450 joules. The same person achieves only 200 Joules striking horizontally, without the aid of gravity. The great advantage of the THUNDERBOLT Hammers, over any person or team of people, is their ability to deliver this blow horizontally and continuously.

RME’s THUNDERBOLT range of recoilless hammers was specifically designed for assisting the relining of all sizes and types of grinding mills. Indeed, in the 21st Century, no grinding mill reline is competitive without access to RME’s THUNDERBOLT recoilless hammer technology for driving liner bolts and liners from mill shell engagement. No other liner bolt or liner removal method is as safe or as fast.
